Sharing Nutella

"A part of a nutritious breakfast."

"God's gift to college students."

"Goes great on anything! Especially animal crackers!"

"You haven't tried it? Oh my gosh!"

"You don't know what you're missing!"

These are just a few things I heard when I told people I had never had Nutella. The hazelnut, cocoa, skim milk and other ingredients combination has graced thousands of taste buds but none were mine. Sure I had tiny tastes, small amounts because people who love Nutella do not simply "share."

On the way back from Uganda, we had about a four hour layover in London. Ms. Lisa McInturff and I went in a Olympics 2012 store followed by a candy store. The candy store was filled with candy and goodness from all over the world, including Italy. I found tiny jars of Nutella. I mean, this thing was T-I-N-Y. One jar barely fit on the palm of my hand. I told Ms. Lisa I had never tried Nutella. Before I knew it three tiny jars of Nutella were being scanned and bagged at the register. I was greatly humbled by this generosity and I couldn't express how thankful I was.
Since then, I have had Nutella. In fact, I rode a Megabus from Memphis to Chattanooga in one day with nothing but Nutella and animal crackers to eat. Sometimes, at Wal-Mart, when my mom is not looking, I hide a Nutella-To-Go in the basket before we check out. Mom doesn't find out until we are in the parking lot and I am digging through the bags looking for my treasure.

The tiny Nutella  Ms. Lisa gave me has never been opened since it was bought in the airport six months ago. I have it sitting on my desk right now; we'll call it "inspiration" as I write this blog. You see, this tiny jar of Nutella contains something that thousands of people love and are addicted to, though they won't admit it. All it takes for someone to love this hazelnut spread is someone else to share it with them. Curiosity is usually not the reason people just pick up a jar of Nutella. It's not a common thing in this country.

Imagine if God was a tiny jar of Nutella. Imagine if God was a gallon jar of Nutella?! Thousands of people would love Him, even be addicted to Him. And all it would take for one person to fall in love with Him is another person sharing Him. People are not drawn to giving their lives to someone they can't see or touch. Curiosity is not usually the reason people walk into a church, pick up a Bible or ask about God. It's not a common fab in this country.

People are very nervous about sharing their Nutella, their faith. And when someone does get the courage to ask, they only get a small taste because the person asked is scared to share too much. So, next time you have a chance to share your Nutella, don't give them a tiny taste. Give them the whole jar!
