No Other Place

I’ve been in Uganda for a week now. At the beginning I was very homesick and even considered coming home early. But after being here and experiencing everything I’m not as homesick as I was when I first got here.

It's been a blast meeting so many people! The people here in Uganda are very nice. The staff at The James' Place are always greeting us and asking questions about America.

Haley and I help with the child care and have grown attached to the staff kids. There are three siblings who are here everyday except Mondays. Nukato (new-ka-toe), Babidia (ba-bi-di-aye) and Joshua are always bringing smiles to our faces. Joshua has sickle cell anemia so please pray for his recovery and health. Nukato and Babidia are twin sisters and have opposite personalities. Nukato is very energetic and loves to talk. Babidia is quiet and likes to play by herself most of the time but she has the prettiest smile. Also, there are William and Tresse, brother and sister who are also staff kids. They have not been here this week because William is sick and Tresse went back to school.

There are also three sisters who come to The James Place each day. Winnie, Joyce and Vivian are always keeping Haley and I and the women who watch the staff kids on our toes. They like to play volleyball and color (or shading as it's called here). Yesterday when I set my hammock up, the three girls loved to swing me in my hammock and sing songs. They will be starting school on Monday so it's going to be quiet around here.
This is Joyce, one of the three girls.

While here, Sam, Haley and I have met other people who are in Uganda as missionaries and/or volunteers. The volunteers at Amani Baby Cottage have become close friends especially after we played a few games of Mafia as well as on Thursday while we helped  them at Amani all day. Last night we went to a restaurant here called Flavours to see two of our friends perform. A few of the volunteers from Amani came and we all crowded around one picnic table. It was great to have a conversation with them without having to feed a baby or change a diaper or make sure a kid is okay in between sentences.
Today is Kids' Club and a few of the Amani volunteers said they would like to come help. It's going to be fun showing them around The James Place (which was the old Amani before it moved to it's current location) and also having help with all the kids.

I'm seeing God here everyday; in the people, the land, the worship of the women at Bible study. The other day we drove deep into fields of sugarcane and I thought "You will not find this any other place." God knew what He was painting when He created the land and people of Africa. There's no other place like Africa.
