One Cookie vs. Two Cookies

One of the most famous aspects of the Skyhawk Cafe (also known as the campus cafeteria) is the chocolate chip cookies. Every day there is a for sure guarantee that there will be chocolate chip cookies waiting for students after the get out of class. I promise they put some kind of addicting agent in those cookies! But sometimes, there are not enough cookies, especially when high school students visit and eat in the cafeteria. Those kids get five cookies and eat two and the other three end up in the trash!!

Anyway, after every meal I get a cookie. Sometimes I get one, sometimes I get two, sometimes I get none. My roommate, Katherine, always asks why I don't just get one or just get two of just get none. You see, some days I want just one cookie to silence my sweet tooth. Other days, especially if it's been a long day, I need two cookies. And on days that high school students eat all the cookies or I don't get to the tray in time I get no cookie. I always say

"It's the difference between a want and a need."

This is a common saying that I often use in regards to decisions. To me, a want is something you can live without. I can live without two cookies, shoot, I can even live without one cookie. Also, a want, in my own definition, is the opposite; something you cannot live without. Like oxygen, water and no cookies are things that I know I absolutely cannot live without.

Sometimes God becomes a toss-up between  being a want and being a need. Let's admit, sometimes you have to make a choice between going to a church gathering and staying home. Or even the choice between staying in bed and getting two more hours of sleep or going to church on Sunday morning. The latter is a common choice I face every Sunday morning in college.

Recently, I have been praying throughout my day. I admit that I have not been setting a time aside from my day to devote to God. I know I need to do that. But throughout my day I send up a simple "Thank you God." or a "Please God ________." I have heard the saying that as long as there are tests given in schools, God will be in schools. That is true especially when the professor passes out a Chemistry exam.

How have you been in praying? Do you set aside a time of the day and pray? Do you continuously pray throughout the day? What do your prayers consist of?

Are your prayers filled with more wants than needs or are there more needs than wants? Or are they pretty well balance in both wants and needs?

These are a few questions for you to ponder. Spring has finally arrived here in Tennessee so spending time sitting down at a computer does not seem as fun as it did when the weather was keeping me inside. I myself will be trading my wants in for needs as I countdown the days (one month and 15 days) until I leave from Nashville and fly to Uganda.
